Stephan Winkler
Stephan Winkler studied composition and violoncello, also conducted later in Berlin and elsewhere. His composing can be described as an act of transformation: He translates spoken language, such as texts by Max Goldt, as well as stories told in pictures – including those from the pens of the artists Eugen Egner and Jim Woodring- into the medium of music according to his own rules. The “post-production” to rework the sound of electronic soundtracks is part of his work as a composer.
In Stephan Winkler’s small music theater “Zumutung” for childlike soprano, tenor, five instruments and feeds, the relationship between intimacy and its publicity is balanced on the basis of the comic strip “Black Hole” by Charles Burns in four mini-acts and a so-called “Blüschentanz”. A doppelganger and the isolated individual, the illusory and the real, the sketchy and the garishly colored interpenetrate each other, compete in sound and image, in vocals and text.
Music theater chamber piece for childlike soprano, tenor and five instrumentalists based on the novel-like picture story “Black Hole” by Charles Burns and a poem by Michel Houellebecq.
