1st International Conductors Academy with Maestro Peter Rundel
12.08.2019 – 28.09.2019
as part of the Pocket Opera Festival Salzburg 2019 “Salzburg lies by the sea”.
By taking over the musical direction of the 2019 Salzburg Pocket Opera Festival, Maestro Peter Rundel has created an academy for young conductors at the beginning of their careers.
In cooperation with the director Thierry Bruehl, a concept was developed that integrates the practical aspects of theater work beyond the study and musical development of the scores.
For six weeks, they actively participate in all rehearsal and production processes of the five music theater premieres – with the goal that each and every one of them could conduct one of the works at the performances during the pocket opera festival “Salzburg lies by the sea”.
The graduates of the Conductors Academy conducted two performances each:
Gerald Resch „Titania Dream“
Pocket opera for soprano, countertenor, baritone and ensemble
Music: Gerald Resch
Libretto: Thierry Bruehl from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare
Conductor on 27 & 28.9.2019: Nicholas Reed
Sara Glojnaric “Pray, chuck, come hither”
Chamber opera for soprano, tenor, ensemble and interplay
Music: Sara Glojnaric
Libretto: Sara Glojnaric and Thierry Bruehl from “Othello” by William Shakespeare
Conductor on 27 & 28.9.2019: Aristide Moari
(Composer Sara Flojnaric stands behind the staging of her chamber opera “Pray, chuck, come hither,” but distances herself from the director’s decision to partially blackface the Othello / Iago character).
