Bernhard Gander
The Austrian composer defies any genre categorization. He breaks genre boundaries and combines new music with heavy metal and rap, whereby rhythm plays a leading role in his works – whether classically orchestrated and/or electronically produced. He studied composition in Graz with Beat Furrer, electroacoustic music at Studio UPIC in Paris and at the Swiss Center for Computer Music in Zurich.
Bernhard Gander stays close to Sophie Calle’s DAS ADRESSBUCH, a book that the artist found in a telephone booth and appropriated in order not only to interrogate those listed in it about the owner, but also to publish their statements in a magazine as a conceptual work of art. The composer now makes several of these statements the subject of a “conversation” between a soprano, a cello and percussion and combines them into a fast-paced, caustically cheerful and vicious play.
