Maarten Güppertz was born in the Netherlands, where he studied at the State Drama Schools in Utrecht and at Studio Herman, Teirlinck in Antwerp.
He was a member of the American theatre group ‘The Players Theatre of New England’ and the Dutch theatre group ‘Consigne 8’. For many years, he performed at the Theater an der Ruhr in Müllheim under Roberto Ciully and at other theatres, including the Theater Basel, the Forum Stuttgart, the Staatstheater Stuttgart and in productions by SWR (e.g. in György Ligeti’s ‘Rondeau’, a one-man theatre piece for an actor and tape recording).
Maarten Güppertz has worked with Hans-Peter Jahn for many years, including on the play ‘Le Gourmet’ as part of the ‘Vom Klang der Bilder’ (The Sound of Images) project at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, at the ECLAT Festival Neue Musik Stuttgart in the theatricalisation of ‘Der Mann, der sich selbst verschenkte’ (The Man Who Gave Himself Away) from Helmut Lachenmann’s ‘Ein Kinderspiel’ (A Child’s Play), at Wien modern, the reworking of the same composer’s ‘Kahikododomikikupapestopopopu’, and at ECLAT, ‘Blackout’, a chamber theatre piece with music.
He has appeared in many television films. Maarten Güppertz is a lecturer in acting and voice training at the IIM Academy in Copenhagen. At the Stuttgart State Opera, he appeared as the innkeeper in Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff in 2023/24.
