Claudia Jung began her career in the costume design department at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. Shortly before the turn of the millennium, she took the plunge into self-employment and has since been responsible for costumes and make-up in theatre and opera productions at venues including the Stadttheater Bern, the Drei-Sparten-Theater St. Gallen, the Theater Meißen and the Theater Baden-Baden. She also regularly takes on the very special challenge of creating costume designs for world premieres, which requires intensive engagement with new (musical) theatre material and stage characters that initially exist only in the director’s imagination.
Claudia Jung has demonstrated this talent for empathising with the fantasies of others many times, not least in her collaborations with the Taschenopernfestival Salzburg since 2005. She is always inventive, unconventional and technically sophisticated – ultimately invisible – which is necessitated by factors such as microphones for performers, minimal time slots for costume changes or wildly moving scenes.
