This is Michael Günther’s second time at the Pocket Opera Festival; in 2013 he appeared at the Pocket Opera Festival “Endlich Opfer” in the plays “Victim of Changes” by Hüseyin Evirgen and “endlich opfer” by Brigitta Muntendorf.
After studying at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin, Michael Günther was a permanent ensemble member for many years at the Volksbühne Berlin, the theaters in Magdeburg, Chemnitz and Bielefeld as well as the Staatstheater Mainz. Formative directors were Frank Castorf, Andreas Kriegenburg, Frank-Patrick Steckel, Irmgard Lange, Christina Friedrich and like no other: Hermann Schein. Michael Günther has been a freelancer since 2006 and has performed at the Württembergische Landesbühne, the Bad Hersfeld Festival, Theater Baden-Baden and Staatstheater Cottbus. In the German premiere of the award-winning Broadway musical “Wicked”, he played and sang the role of Dr. Dillamonth over 650 times as the first cast member. He has also performed at the Semperoper Dresden, the Philharmonie Luxembourg and the Theater Plauen-Zwickau. As a permanent member of the ensemble and director of the Shakespeare Company Berlin, he brings the work of the great master to the entire German-speaking world. Michael Günther taught acting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig, the Schauspielschule Mainz and the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Künste Stuttgart.
